One of the loneliest walks a person can take is on a journey of waiting for an incarcerated love one. If you are experiencing this walk, you don't have to be alone.
Journey of the Heart is a workshop that was developed either as a (1) six-week series, (2) a one-day conference, or (3) as a week-end retreat. The workshop takes the participants on a journey of healing by on a path of healing by learning and applying the Biblical tools of compassion, encouragement, understanding, hope, and forgiveness.
The program begins by identifying the important role that family and friends have in helping their loved one remain connected to the outside. Next the participant will briefly reflect back over the events that led to this unfortunate experience. Then, by standing in the present, healing can begin with a grater knowledge and understanding of the justice process. Together, the family, friends, and the offender can face the future in preparing and planning for reentry.
Throughout the program, participants are introduced to scriptural principles that will help them develop a "Covenant of Grace." This is a covenant promise that will become the guide for establishing a loving set of boundaries that encourages the returning loved one while supporting the relationships involved. This tool will help both the family and the offender to begin a process of reconciliation and trust while their loved one is "behind" the walls and in their transition "outside" the walls.
